CRIME NEWS

  • King County reported 278 shots fired, 47 shot injury victims and 13 fatal shootings in the first quarter—a 36% decrease in incidents and 40% fewer injuries and homicides than in the first quarter of last year—according to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office report released Tuesday, April 29.  Auburn Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lisa Stirgus was sworn in as a new Auburn City Council member on April 22 to fill former councilmember Larry Brown’s four-year term—she will seek a full term in the November general election.  Auburn Reporter
  • Washington lawmakers passed a bill that will raise the annual Discover Pass price from $30 to $45 for two vehicles – the new price will take effect on Oct. 1 and still allows discounts for seniors, disabled veterans, families of foster children, and volunteers.  Auburn Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Auburn Riverside grad Jaden Robinson signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent after the NFL Draft on April 26 — the 6’0” cornerback from Oregon State will attend rookie minicamp in early May and may join organized team activities starting May 27.  Auburn Reporter
  • Former Gig Harbor coach Darrin Reeves was named Auburn Riverside's new head football coach on April 22, replacing Greg Herd. Reeves, who finished with a 17-11 record at Gig Harbor, said he will focus on teaching toughness and unity—tools he believes will help the team face challenges.  Auburn Reporter
  • After an 8-2 loss on April 25 and a 4-3 defeat on April 28 that swept the Auburn Mountainview Lions by Decatur High School, coach Chuck Schroeder said the team showed signs of improvement as junior pitcher Jeremiah Weatherford struck out seven in six innings. The team holds a 5-7 record + remains in playoff position with four games left, including matchups with Kentlake and Thomas Jefferson High School.  Auburn Reporter
