COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents can bring recyclables like paper, mattresses and old appliances to Pioneer Elementary School on June 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while Auburn will host its Community Yard Sale from July 18 to 20 with registration open until June 30; additional events include tool borrowing through the South King County Tool Library, free bulky item pick-ups on regular garbage days and King County repair sessions.  Auburn Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 9, the 2025 election season began when 11 candidates filed to run for Auburn Mayor and for four City Council positions — with incumbent Nancy Backus, Council members Kate Baldwin and Lisa M. Stirgus among those running — as the Primary Election is set for Aug. 5 and the top two candidates will move on to the General Election on Nov. 4.  Auburn Examiner
  • Governor Bob Ferguson signed the BEAM Act on May 12, which will require drivers with reckless or excessive speeding histories to install GPS-based speed limiters as a condition for reclaiming their licenses or for pre-trial release and probation. The law, named after four crash victims and effective Jan. 1, 2029, imposes a $21 monthly fee and penalties for tampering — measures meant to reduce traffic deaths.  Auburn Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • A measles case confirmed in King County involved a Canadian traveler who was infectious from April 30 to May 3, visiting several public sites in King and Snohomish counties—residents who may have been exposed at these locations are advised to check their vaccination status and seek care if symptoms develop between May 7 and May 24. Public Health has provided detailed guidance in case of potential exposure for anyone who is not immune.  Auburn Reporter
