CRIME NEWS

  • On May 20, ICE and three federal agencies arrested 17 people in handcuffs and ankle restraints at Eagle Beverage in Kent during an investigation into unlawful employment, and they were escorted onto an unmarked bus.  Auburn Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 5, Auburn City Council voted 5-2 to let Mayor Nancy Backus terminate the 2013 contract with King County and start its own municipal court after 13 years of shared services. Council members debated the impact on probation services—now reduced by budget issues—and the future local management of community court.  Auburn Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marcene Lay filed a lawsuit against MultiCare Auburn Medical Center after her 76-year-old husband Gary Lay—who has dementia—left the hospital unsupervised on June 14 and was found nine miles away by police. The suit claims that staff did not file a missing person report or call a Silver Alert and seeks money for his injuries, stress, and extra costs.  Auburn Reporter
