- ➤ Auburn City Council approved a resolution on May 5 giving Mayor Backus the authority to sign an agreement with the state commerce department for a $1.5 million grant to fund the design and construction of the new Downtown Auburn Theater—part of a $6 million project in the 2024 budget. City leaders said the new theater will replace the condemned building and that construction will begin in early 2026. Auburn Reporter
