CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Auburn police responded to a shooting at the Auburn Sounder Station on May 27 that left one 15-year-old male hospitalized after a gunshot wound while two other teens—one who is the suspected shooter and one not linked to the shooting—were taken into custody, and another suspect remains outstanding. Auburn Reporter
- ➤ Nearly eight years after Isaiah Obet was fatally shot by officer Jeffrey Nelson, an inquest concluded on May 22 with the six-person jury failing to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Nelson criminally caused the death—four jurors voted yes, one voted no and one voted unknown. Investigators reported there was insufficient evidence to file charges, and Nelson remains in prison for a separate on-duty murder. Auburn Reporter
- ➤ Ronnie Darnell Franklin Jr., 28, was sentenced to 34 months in prison with 75 days credit for time served for the Dec. 6 crash on 15th Street in Auburn that killed 22-year-old Kendra Green and injured a 24-year-old passenger — court documents state he drove far above the 35 mph limit, leading to charges of vehicular homicide and concurrent vehicular assault. - ➤ Auburn police arrested six minors on May 26 after an officer saw a bus stop robbery and a car break-in attempt near Green River College housing—three boys were charged for first-degree robbery while three girls were detained, with two later released and the victim's belongings returned.
