CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old Auburn man and a 16-year-old juvenile were charged with first-degree murder for shooting Kent-Meridian High student Cristopher Medina-Zelaya during a drug deal at Campus Park on June 3, 2024 — the man remains in custody with a $3 million bail and the juvenile is held pending a hearing to decide if his case will be moved to adult court.  Auburn Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Auburn City Council approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Nancy Backus to file a $300,000 loan guarantee application with HUD for redeveloping the Auburn Resource Center at 2814, 2816, and 2818 Auburn Way North — home to the Auburn Community Court and Auburn Food Bank. The council also approved a contract with the State Department of Commerce to accept a $250,060 state grant for building a new downtown park next to the Auburn Avenue Theater.  Auburn Reporter
