CRIME NEWS

  • Data from July 24 showed that King County gun violence fell to a five-year low in the second quarter with 14 firearm homicides, 55 nonfatal shooting victims, and 278 total shots fired incidents compared to 2024—local partners credit new outreach and enforcement programs for the drop.  Auburn Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 21, Auburn City Council approved an expansion of its automated traffic safety camera program to enforce speeds beyond school zones so police can focus on larger tasks—three new cameras will be installed later this year and start operating early 2026.  Auburn Reporter
  • State Sen. Claudia Kauffman said she will stand up for Native communities after a conservative pundit posted a comment that said 'We didn’t kill enough Indians.' The senator from the 47th district — which covers parts of Kent, Auburn and Covington — said she supports stronger hate crime laws and a statewide hotline to report bias incidents and boost Tribal and state justice coordination.  Auburn Reporter
