- ➤ A family-friendly festival will take place at Outlet Collection Mall's parking lot near Red Robin on Aug. 23 from 2 to 8 p.m. Local business EMF Party Rentals will host the event featuring free hot dogs, a free photo booth, bounce houses, face painting, food trucks, craft vendors, bricks & minifigs and more while tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the gate. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Louis Montel De’Andre Dowers, a Seattle man, was sentenced to six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to carjacking and using a firearm during a robbery that began at an Occidental Avenue South business in Seattle and led him to abandon his vehicle near Kilo Middle School in Auburn—where officers recovered a loaded 9mm semiautomatic pistol known as a ghost gun—leaving the victims with lasting trauma. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Auburn School District set two proposals on the November 4 ballot—a bond to build a new middle school and replace aging campuses and a levy for safety, security, and technology upgrades needed to relieve overcrowding. If approved, the bond will cost an average of $1.04 per $1,000 in property value for up to $490 million and the levy will cost 77 cents per $1,000 for $110.8 million—plans that follow eight years of on-time, under-budget school projects.
