Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 27th of August.
Good morning, Auburn.
🚧 Accidents
Between August 18 and 24, VRFA — the Valley Regional Fire Authority — answered 911 calls in Auburn and nearby Black Diamond, putting out a small bark fire, helping a woman with neck pain, checking four car accidents, and rescuing a motorcycle rider from a steep embankment with some patients taken by ambulance.
🚨 Crime
Since appointing a full-time retail theft prosecutor in 2022, the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has seen filings jump from 52 cases in 2021 to 142 through June 2025—driven by a temporary deputy funded by a state grant—with the rise attributed to more dedicated prosecuting resources rather than increased referrals.
🏛️ Government
Auburn Police remind drivers to slow down and stop for school buses ahead of the school year starting September 3 — state law requires that vehicles on two-lane roads and those following the bus on multi-lane roads stop when lights are flashing.
The police also warn that school zone cameras are active and violations will lead to citations.
