COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Auburn Police and the Auburn Valley Humane Society rescued 103 Chiweenies in one of the largest animal rescues in city history, with the operation starting on Aug. 20 and finishing on Aug. 26. Animal Control Officer Ray Peckham led the team that first found over 50 dogs at a duplex and later returned to care for the animals until all were safely removed — a coordinated effort that brought the rescue to a close. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Auburn man Justo Giovany Salgado-Reyes was sentenced to 13 years for a drive-by shooting at Colonial Court Apartments on Sept. 8 that critically injured a 23-year-old man. Auburn Reporter
- ➤ Francisco Javier Ochoa-Prado, 34, of Auburn was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for fatally striking his ex-girlfriend’s roommate with a rifle stock on Aug. 1, 2022—he told officers he did not regret his actions. Auburn Reporter
- ➤ King County settled a lawsuit for $21.5 million with Gyongyi Maas, who was mauled by dogs while jogging near 28000 45th Place South in 2022—neighbors had repeatedly called about hazards at the property— and the settlement requires the property be sold for cleanup. KOMO News
